| Summary, etc. | Bauernfeld’s personal commitment in favour of constitution and a responsible ministerial cabinet during the Vormärz can also be found after the abortive revolution of 1848, in his theatrical work, particularly in the fantastic fairy play Die Elfen-Constitution oder Sie verlangen’s sich nicht. This work, unpublished in the author’s life-time has for model Shakespeare’s A midsummer Night’s Dream – the action being transposed to the realm of elves.His political satire concerning both the change of opinion of his comrade in arms Alexander Bach and the political set-back of the restoration exposes the introduction of a constitution in elf land as being nothing but mere illusion. |

| Summary, etc. | Bauernfelds persönliches Engagement zugunsten einer Konstitution und eines verantwortlichen Ministerkabinetts im Vormärz schlägt sich nach der gescheiterten Revolution von 1848 ebenfalls in seiner dramatischen Produktion nieder, vor allem im zu Lebzeiten des Autors ungedruckt gebliebenen phantastischen Zauberspiel Die Elfen-Constitution oder Sie verlangen’s sich nicht, dessen Handlung der Autor – dabei an Shakespeares Sommernachtstraum anknüpfend – ins Elfenreich verlegte. Die politische Satire, die auch den Gesinnungswechsel seines früheren Mitkämpfers Alexander Bach und den restaurativen Rückschlag zum Thema hat, entlarvt die Einführung der Verfassung in das Elfenreich als Trugbild einer wahren Konstitution. |
