| Summary, etc. | Paul de Man, literary theorist and scholar, presents two different versions of Rainer Maria Rilke’s Duino Elegies in his edition of Rilke’s Œuvres 2 : Poésie (Seuil, 1972), both by poet-translators: Armel Guerne and Lorand Gaspar. A look into private archives covering the genesis of Œuvres 2 reveals that this highly unusual, even unique coexistence of two translations of the same text, which De Man describes as a hermeneutic experiment in his foreword, resulted from an editorial embarrassment. The article sheds light on the circumstances that led to the strange coexistence of these two dis-similar texts and explores the fortuitous but fruitful confrontation, competition and complementarity that was born out of an editorial conflict. |

| Summary, etc. | Auf Initiative des Literaturtheoretikers und Universitätsprofessors Paul de Man als Herausgeber des zweiten Bandes von Rainer Maria Rilkes französischer Werkausgabe Œuvres 2 : Poésie (Paris : Le Seuil, 1972) erschienen gleich zwei französische Fassungen von Rilkes zehn Duineser Elegien, aus der Feder von verschiedenen selbst dichterisch tätigen Übersetzern (Armel Guerne und Lorand Gaspar). Die Ursache für dieses ungewöhnliche, ja einzigartige Nebeneinander zweier Übertragungen des gleichen Textes, das De Man in seinem Vorwort als hermeneutisches Experiment schildert, war in Wirklichkeit ein verlegerisches Problem, was aus privaten Archivstücken rund um die Herausgabe von Œuvres 2 hervorgeht. Der vorliegende Beitrag beleuchtet die Umstände, die zu der merkwürdigen Koexistenz der gleich-ungleichen Schwester-Übersetzungen führten und untersucht die fruchtbaren Beziehungen von Konfrontation, Konkurrenz und Komplementarität, die beinahe zufällig aus dem redaktionellen Konflikt resultierten. |
