| Summary, etc. | Le secteur spatial traverse une période de bouleversements, à travers l’évolution des technologies, l’apparition de nouveaux acteurs privés de plus en plus influents et le renforcement des enjeux stratégiques dans l’espace. Nous avons choisi d’étudier ces transformations via le cas d’Astroscale, une start-up japonaise, créée en 2013 et spécialisée dans le traitement des débris spatiaux. Ce cas nous permet de mettre en évidence plusieurs grandes dynamiques propres au secteur spatial. D’abord, il montre que le problème grandissant des débris spatiaux est en train de remettre en question le futur des activités spatiales. Ensuite, on voit apparaître de nouveaux entrepreneurs visionnaires, qui prennent en charge les ambitions spatiales. Enfin, ce cas met en valeur le rôle central joué par les États dans la création de nouveaux marchés. |

| Summary, etc. | The space sector is going through a period of upheaval. New technologies are evolving, private players have emerged and are increasingly influential and the strategic nature of space is growing in importance. We chose to study these transformations through the case of a Japanese start-up, Astroscale, created in 2013 and specialized in the treatment of space debris. This case study allows us to highlight significant dynamics that are specific to the space sector. First, the challenge that is posed to the future of space activities by the growing problem of space debris is explained. Secondly, the emergence of new visionary entrepreneurs with ambitions in space is outlined. Finally, the analysis in this case confirms the central role played by the States in the creation of new markets. |
