Summary, etc. |

Summary, etc. | Deaf children in development : promoting a global approach of their education. This paper is aimed at providing parents with some recent findings that could help them think to the future of their deaf child. It should also give teachers some points of reference for their own practice. To this end, we come back on linguistic, cognitive, cultural characteristics of deaf children, the specific features of the educative system in which they grow, etc. We also think about these different characteristics in order to determine whether they are not mere clichés that people surrounding deafness keep going. We would like to surpass the two oppositions, pro-signs vs. pro-oralism, and clearly state what we know and what we don’t know. This is one of the main motivations underlying the present thematic issue. |
