Summary, etc. | Cet article présente une perspective générale sur les formes et modalités des effets des images sur les personnes. À partir de l’hypothèse que le registre des représentations est porteur d’une ambiguïté ontologique, on examine les raisons de l’iconophobie, et à l’inverse de la fascination que les images peuvent exercer. On s’interroge à travers le cas de la photographie sur la part du réel figuré et celle de potentialités propres à l’image qui se révèlent le plus nettement dans l’art – puissance rhétorique, jeux d’échelle (du gigantisme à la miniature), place de l’anthropomorphisme, complexité formelle de figures déroutant le regard. |

Summary, etc. | This article presents a general overview of the forms and modalities of the effects that images have on people. Starting from the hypothesis that the register of visual representations contains an ontological ambiguity, the article examines the reasons behind iconophobia, and conversely the fascination that images can exert. Focusing on the case of photography, I reflect on the figurative real and on those unique features of the image that are most clearly revealed in art-rhetorical power, ways of playing with scale (from gigantism to miniaturism), the place of anthropomorphism, and the formal complexity of figures that can mislead the viewer’s gaze. |
