Summary, etc. | Cette recherche vise à déterminer le rôle de l’entrepreneur dans la dynamique d’internationalisation engagée par des PME. Les auteurs mettent en relief les principaux modèles d’expansion internationale suivis par ces entreprises et se focalisent sur celui des born-again globals. Cette stratégie concerne des PME traditionnelles centrées sur le marché domestique qui décident soudainement de s’ouvrir à l’international. L’étude empirique porte sur le cas de l’entreprise SLAT, une PME du secteur industriel de la région Rhône-Alpes. Les résultats obtenus permettent d’identifier les caractéristiques de l’entrepreneur qui expliquent l’internationalisation rapide de cette entreprise : (1) les expériences professionnelles passées, (2) les compétences personnelles, (3) l’esprit international et (4) les réseaux personnels, professionnels et institutionnels. |

Summary, etc. | « It is never too late to undertake »: the internationalisation of born-again globalsThis research aims to determine the role of the entrepreneur in the dynamics of internationalisation developed by SMEs. The authors explain major models of international expansion followed by these companies and highlight the one of born-again globals. This strategy concerns traditional SMEs with a home-country focus, who suddenly decide to develop on international markets. The empirical study is based on the SLAT company, an industrial SME located in the Rhône-Alpes region. Obtained findings allow identifying the characteristics of the entrepreneur that explain the rapid internationalisation of this company: (1) past professional experiences, (2) personal competence, (3) international mind and (4) personal, professional and institutional networks. |
