Des séquences d’observations de bébés dans leur famille ou sur le tapis à la crèche montrent que très tôt les jeunes enfants se reconnaissent et ont des relations sociales. Dès les premiers mois, les nourrissons se reconnaissent et échangent regards et sourires. Puis, peu à peu, ils élaborent des jeux plus complexes et manifestent du plaisir à se retrouver : ils acceptent mieux ainsi la séparation avec leur mère.

Helene Gane watched infants in a child care centre and reports her own impressions on the behaviour of the babies left by their parents, gradually discovering the world and the others around. From the very first months, babies are able to recognize each other and to build up social relationship: they like to smile and look at each other. Little by little, children build up games which are more and more complicated and show a real pleasure to meet their friends: they learn to accept the separation from their mothers.
