| Summary, etc. | RésuméÀ partir du texte fondateur “Que vaut notre école ?” (How Good Is Our School?) et des pratiques d’autoévaluation, l’article analyse le rôle des inspecteurs dans le suivi des performances du système scolaire écossais et les enseignements qu’ils en tirent. Un suivi du système par les données a été progressivement remplacé par un type de gouvernance fondé sur l’autoévaluation. Ce processus ne marque pas pour autant l’abandon des indicateurs et critères comparatifs (benchmarks) de performance mais montre leur utilisation davantage comme un fondement de pratiques d’autoévaluation. |

| Summary, etc. | Governing learning: School self-evaluation in ScotlandThis paper discusses the role of the inspectorate and their knowledge, drawing on the key text ‘How Good is our School’ (HGIOS) and associated practices of self-evaluation, through which the inspectorate ‘teaches’ the system how to monitor and learn from its performance. There is a transition in process from data-based surveillance of the system to a new governing phase and style based on self-evaluation. However, ‘hard’ governing forms such as indicators and benchmarks have not disappeared. Rather, they may have provided a foundation on which the practices of self-evaluation may now be more securely installed. |

El seguimiento del sistema por datos fue progresivamente reemplazado por un tipo de gobernanza fundado sobre la autoevaluación. Sin embargo este proceso no marca el abandono de los indicadores y los criterios comparativos de desempeño sino que muestra su utilización más bien como un fundamento de prácticas de autoevaluación. |

| Summary, etc. | ZusammenfassungAusgehend von dem Gründungsdokument „Wie gut ist unsere Schule?“ (How Good is Our School?) und den Praktiken der Selbstbewertung untersucht der Artikel die Rolle der Inspektoren bei der Überwachung der Leistungen des schottischen Schulsystems und die Lehren, die von ihnen daraus gezogen werden. Eine Überwachung des Systems durch Daten ist schrittweise durch einen Typ von Steuerung ersetzt worden, der sich auf die Selbstbewertung stützt. Dieser Prozess markiert gleichwohl nicht die Aufgabe der vergleichenden Indikatoren und Kriterien (benchmarks) der Leistung, sondern verweist auf deren stärkere Benutzung als Grundlage der Praktiken der Selbstbewertung. |
