| Summary, etc. | RésuméComme dans nombre de grandes villes du monde, les habitants de Tananarive, la capitale de Madagascar, développent des discours relatifs au quartier qui se fondent principalement sur l’analogie entre le quartier et le village. Aussi semble-t-il intéressant de s’interroger sur l’origine de cette analogie dans les discours des citadins, ainsi que sur sa signification : on souhaite montrer qu’elle a pour fonction de projeter une image rassurante de la ville, image qui dissimulerait, et dans le même temps trahirait, les tensions qui traversent la société merina. Pour cela, l’article examine tout d’abord les pratiques et les discours des citadins qui permettent d’accréditer ce mythe du village urbain, avant de remettre en cause ces éléments, pour montrer que cette vision très rassurante ne correspond que très imparfaitement à la réalité. |

| Summary, etc. | As many dwellers in big cities across the world, the inhabitants of Antananarivo, Madagascar’s capital city, often compare the way of life in the urban neighbourhoods to the rural way of life in the Malagasy villages. This paper tries to explain the origin of this analogy and to understand what it really means. Two interpretations exist and stand together: the analogy gives a comforting representation of living in the city; but it can also be used to hide the acute social tensions dividing the Antananarivo society. The paper is divided in two parts. First, « the village in the city » can be observed in certain urban practices and places of sociability. But secondly, it is important to demonstrate that the reality of everyday life in the neighbourhood denies its existence. |

| Summary, etc. | ResumenComo en muchas grandes ciudades del mundo, los habitantes de Antananarivo, la capital de Madagascar, construyen un discurso sobre su barrio, fundado principalmente en la analogía entre el barrio y el pueblo. Resulta pertinente interrogarse sobre el origen de esta analogía existente en el discurso de los citadinos, así como, su significación: se pretende demostrar que esta tiene por función proyectar una imagen positiva de la ciudad, que al mismo tiempo podrá ocultar y revelar las tensiones que afecta a la sociedad merina. El presente artículo, examina en primer lugar las prácticas y los discursos de los citadinos que permiten confirmar este mito del « poblado urbano », antes de poner en tela de juicio estos elementos, para mostrar que esta visión de una ciudad segura, no corresponde sino muy vagamente a la realidad. |
