| Summary, etc. | Les facteurs explicatifs de l’abandon scolaire sont connus. Les éléments constitutifs du raccrochage, c’est-à-dire le retour en formation dans un établissement de remédiation du décrochage scolaire, le sont moins. L’article porte sur les jeunes qui, après une période plus ou moins longue de déscolarisation, décident d’un retour en formation. La question centrale porte sur les vecteurs de la décision de ce retour. Pour répondre, le raccrochage est lié à l’action du processus temporel et au sens donné à l’événement. L’article pose d’abord le cadre politique et sociologique de la lutte contre le décrochage scolaire, puis problématise l’action du processus temporel sur les parcours des jeunes. Il présente enfin un modèle séquentiel du décrochage-raccrochage axé sur la fonction du temps comme incubateur de la volonté de raccrocher et de l’événement comme déclencheur du recours effectif au dispositif. L’article montre que le temps et l’événement sont les ingrédients d’une alchimie de transformation de la volonté en acte. Cette démonstration permet en conclusion d’interroger le temps court des politiques de lutte contre le décrochage, qui s’ajuste mal au temps long des processus de raccrochage. |

| Summary, etc. | The factors that explain students dropping out are well known. What is less well known are the elements that make up their return to school, i.e. a return to education via a dropout remediation center. This article focuses on young people who decide to return to education after a more or less lengthy period of dropping out. The central question concerns the vectors behind their decision to return. To answer this question, the pupils’ decision to return is linked to the action of the temporal process and the meaning given to the event. The article begins by setting out the political and sociological framework in the fight against school dropouts, then goes on to examine the impact of the temporal process on young people’s lives. Finally, it presents a sequential model of the dropping out of-return to school process, focusing on the function of time as an incubator for the desire to return to school and of the event as a trigger for the actual use of the system. The article shows that time and the event are the ingredients of an alchemy that transforms will into action. In conclusion, this demonstration questions the short timeframe of anti-dropout policies, which are poorly adapted to the long timeframe of the return to school process. |
