Summary, etc. | Catherine Le Grand-Sébille, socio-anthropologue, a mené entre janvier 2011 et juin 2012, dans douze régions françaises, une étude qui visait à mieux comprendre les expériences sensorielles et gustatives des personnes en fin de vie et les points de vue de familles et de soignants médecins et non-médecins qui interviennent auprès d’elles. Il s’est agi, avec cette recherche qualitative et d’approche compréhensive, de faire apparaître, face à la mort proche, non seulement les consommations et les goûts, mais aussi les relations, les représentations, les attitudes et les interdits qui entourent ceux qui continuent à manger et à boire avec plaisir, comme ceux qui sont contraints et attristés d’y renoncer. C’est aussi le contexte de forte médicalisation de la fin de vie et la montée dans nos institutions de principes conjuguant lutte contre l’alcoolisation et promotion de normes diététiques, que cette recherche-action interroge. |

Summary, etc. | Catherine Le Grand Sébille, a social anthropologist, conducted a study aimed at gaining a better understanding of the sensory and gustatory experiences of people at the end of their life and the viewpoint of families and caregivers, both doctors and other staff, associated with them. Conducted between January 2011 and June 2012 in twelve regions of France, this qualitative research focused on representing the patients’ consumptions and likes close to their death. It also intended to bring to light the relationships, representations, attitudes and restrictions for those who keep eating and drinking with pleasure and for those who are sadly forced to stop. Finally, this action-research questions the institutions’ way of dealing with the end of life nowadays, with a high medicalisation and rising principles that associate the fight against alcoholization with the promotion of nutritional norms. |
