| Summary, etc. | Si la plupart des expériences de mort imminentes (EMI) sont dominées par des sentiments positifs, certaines laissent place à des sentiments douloureux tels que la peur, la terreur, l’horreur, la colère, la solitude et/ou la culpabilité. La prévalence de ce type d’expérience reste difficile à évaluer, malgré quelques tentatives de définition et de classification. À l’instar des EMI positives, ces EMI négatives pourraient-elles avoir un rôle adaptatif et protéger le psychisme de l’effroi de la mort propre, à l’instant traumatique et par rapport aux répercussions psychotraumatiques à moyen et long terme ? Nous avons analysé dans ce sens une base de données regroupant 131 témoignages d’EMI, dont 11 sont exclusivement négatives et 28 comportent des aspects à la fois négatifs et positifs. À cette approche quantitative, nous ajoutons également une réflexion clinique à partir de l’étude d’un cas unique. Sans parvenir à conclure fermement, nos analyses suggèrent que c’est moins la valence du contenu qui détermine ses répercussions psychotraumatiques que le mode d’appropriation mis en place par le sujet, d’où une majorité d’intégrations positives des EMI dites négatives. |

| Summary, etc. | While most near-death experiences (NDEs) are dominated by positive feelings, some give way to distressing feelings such as fear, terror, horror, anger, loneliness and/or guilt. The prevalence of this type of experience remains difficult to assess, despite some definition and classification attempts. As with the pleasant NDEs, could these distressing NDEs have an adaptive role and protect the psyche from the dread of death itself, at the traumatic moment and with respect to psychotraumatic repercussions in the medium and long term ? In this regard, we analyzed a database of 131 NDE testimonies, of which 11 are exclusively negative and 28 have both negative and positive aspects. To this quantitative approach, we also add a clinical reflection from the study of a single case. Without being able to conclude firmly, our analyzes suggest that it is less the valence of the NDE content which determines its psychotraumatic repercussions than the mode of appropriation set up by the subject, hence a majority of positive integrations of so-called distressing NDE. |
