| Summary, etc. | RésuméLa Bourboule est une petite ville agréable, de 2 000 habitants, située dans le massif du Sancy, au centre de la France. Qui pourrait penser qu’il y a encore 150 ans, elle n’existait ni sur le plan administratif, ni sur le plan physique ? Comment expliquer qu’un hameau de quelques âmes soit devenu une commune et une ville à part entière, dotée des équipements urbains les plus représentatifs ? La réponse, on la doit à la nature qui l’a pourvue de sources thermales et surtout à la société capitaliste qui les a exploitées. Par son action (d’où son surnom de « company town ») et malgré des tensions avec les autres acteurs, La Bourboule connaît un succès touristique énorme et acquiert tous les éléments d’urbanité. |

| Summary, etc. | La Bourboule is a pleasant little town with a population of 2 000, located in the Massif du Sancy in the centre of France. It is hard to believe that 150 years ago it did not exist, neither physically nor administratively. How did a hamlet of only a few souls become a community and fully-fledged town, endowed with all the facilities of an urban area? The answer to this question lies in a natural phenomenon, hot springs, but above all in the capitalist company that exploited them. Through its actions, and despite tensions with other players, La Bourboule experienced a booming tourist trade and acquired all the trappings of an urban centre, hence its nickname: the “company town ”. |

| Summary, etc. | ResumenLa Bourboule es una ciudad pequeña y agradable, de 2.000 habitantes, situada en el macizo del Sancy, en el centro de Francia. ¿Quién podría pensar que hace 150 años, no existía, ni administrativamente ni físicamente? ¿Cómo explicar que una aldea de unas pocas almas se haya convertido en un municipio y una ciudad con los equipamientos urbanos más representativos? La respuesta se la debemos a la Naturaleza que la ha provisto de fuentes termales y, sobre todo, a la sociedad capitalista que las ha explotado. Con su actuación (al que debe su sobrenombre de “company town ”) y a pesar de las tensiones con otros agentes, La Bourboule conoce un éxito turístico enorme y reune todos los elementos de urbanidad. |
