| Summary, etc. | Cet article analyse le développement spatial des implantations universitaires à l’échelle de la Communauté autonome de Madrid. La capitale espagnole, qui représente le plus grand foyer universitaire d’Espagne, a vu le nombre de ses universités passer de un à quinze en à peine quarante ans. Le système universitaire régional se constitue dans un horizon temporel très resserré et les nouvelles universités, notamment privées, privilégient l’implantation dans la périphérie favorisée de l’aire métropolitaine. En revanche, le développement de l’université publique est conçu dans une logique de rééquilibrage régional et métropolitain. La dispersion des installations universitaires dans la région de Madrid s’opère dans un contexte de concurrence accrue entre les universités du fait des nouvelles politiques d’excellence et de la diminution du nombre d’étudiants, mais aussi marqué par l’absence de planification universitaire à l’échelle métropolitaine. |

| Summary, etc. | Madrid’s University System : Between Concentration and Dispersion of UniversitiesThe article analyzes the spatial distribution of universities in the metropolitan area of Madrid (Communauté autonome de Madrid). The Spanish capital, which has the largest number of universities in Spain, saw the number of its universities grow from one to fifteen in just forty years. In this recent regional university system, new universities, especially private universities, chose to locate in the periphery of the metropolitan area. In contrast, the development of the public university is designed in the logic of regional and metropolitan consolidation. The dispersion of universities in Madrid occurs in the context of increased competition between universities because of a new excellence policy and the decreasing number of students, but is also marked by the absence of academic planning at the metropolitan level. |

| Summary, etc. | En este artículo se estudia el desarrollo espacial de las universidades en la Comunidad Autónoma de Madrid. La capital española conoce la mayor proliferación de universidades de España y, en sólo cuarenta años, la región ha visto crecer de una a quince el número de las universidades radicadas en su territorio. El sistema universitario regional se constituye rápidamente y las nuevas universidades, en particular las privadas, se establecen en la periferia rica del área metropolitana. Por el contrario, el desarrollo de la universidad pública busca el reequilibrio regional y metropolitano. La dispersión de las instalaciones universitarias en la Comunidad de Madrid se produce en un contexto de aumento de la competencia entre las universidades debido a la nueva política de excelencia y a la disminución del número de estudiantes, pero también marcado por la ausencia de planificación a nivel metropolitano. |
