| Summary, etc. | RésuméEn dépit de leur jeune âge, les villes nouvelles françaises ont fait l’objet de nombreux récits ou analyses les situant dans une perspective historique. Elles apparaissent, pour certains chercheurs, comme le stade suprême de l’urbanisme d’État. D’autres en produisent une lecture technicienne. Ces récits dessinent une mythologie des villes nouvelles. En contrepoint de ces deux visions d’en haut, les historiens locaux des villes nouvelles racontent, sur le mode nostalgique, l’épopée vécue au quotidien par les habitants pionniers. Reste que ces histoires des villes nouvelles se sont en grande partie écrites sans historiens. Cette lacune de l’historiographie contemporaine témoigne à la fois des problèmes que soulève l’histoire urbaine du temps présent et de préventions esthétiques de la corporation. |

| Summary, etc. | Despite their youth French new towns have been the subject of numerous accounts and analyses that place them in a historical perspective. Some researchers describe them as the supreme stage of State town planning while others make a technocratic reading of them. These accounts develop a mythology of new towns. As a counterpoint to these two views from above local historians of new towns report nostalgically the epic everydaylife of their pioneer inhabitants. Anyhow these histories of new towns were written for a great part by nonhistorians. This gap in contemporaneous historiography testifies both to problems raised by present-day urban history and to aesthetic prejudices within the corporation. |

| Summary, etc. | ZusammenfassungTrotz ihrer Jugend sind die französischen neuen Städte Gegenstände zahlreicher Erzählungen und Analysen, die sie in einer historischen Perspektive stellen. Einige Forscher beschreiben sie als das äusserste Stadium der staatlichen Stadtplanung, während andere eine technokratische Lesart von ihnen haben. Diese Erzählungen bilden eine Mythologie der neuen Städte. Im Kontrapunkt zu diesen beiden Sichten von oben erzählen mit Sehnsucht lokale Geschichtsforscher der neuen Städte das Epos, das ihre Pionierbewohner alltäglich leben. Immerhin wurden diese Geschichten der neuen Städte zum grossen Teil von Nichthistorikern geschrieben. Diese Lücke in der heutigen Historiographie zeugt zugleich von den Problemen, welche die Stadtgeschichte der Gegenwart stellt, und von ästhetischen Vorurteilen innerhalb des Berufsstands. |
