| Summary, etc. | RésuméFace à l’impossibilité de discriminer le géographique de l’ethnographique dans la construction des savoirs coloniaux, il est nécessaire d’abandonner les approches épistémologiques et de retracer l’émergence de ces savoirs à la lumière de contextes coloniaux étrangers aux cloisonnements disciplinaires de la métropole. Cet article prend l’exemple de l’« invention » des Hauts Plateaux du sud de l’Indochine dans les discours coloniaux. On constate alors une configuration spécifique à la colonisation, faisant de la géographie et de l’ethnographie les deux versants d’un même savoir visant à rendre transparents les hommes et les milieux pour mieux en pénétrer le cœur. |

| Summary, etc. | In view of the impossible differentiation between geographic and ethnographic knowledge during the colonial times it is necessary to abandon the epistemological approach and to reconsider the emergence of this knowledge in the light of colonial contexts where the division of the two disciplines prevailing in France is unknown. This article examines the « invention » of the South-Indo-Chinese Highlands in the colonial discourses. It reveals the existence of a specific colonial configuration in which geography and ethnology are the two sides of a same knowledge (of men and environment) that aims at giving these spaces a visibility in order to penetrate their heart. |

| Summary, etc. | ZusammenfassungInfolge der unmöglichen Differenzierung zwischen dem geographischen und dem ethnographischen Wissen in den Kolonialzeiten muss man die epistemologischen Annäherungen aufgeben und das Auftauchen dieses Wissens im Lichte kolonialer Kontexte, wo die französische Fachtrennung unbekannt ist, neu betrachten. Dieser Artikel untersucht die « Erfindung » der südindochinesischen Hochländer in den kolonialen Diskursen. Er zeigt eine spezifische koloniale Konfiguration, in der Geographie und Ethnologie die beiden Seiten desselben Wissens (der Menschen und Umwelt) sind, das darauf zielt, diese Räume sichtbar zu machen, um sie tiefer durchzudringen. |
