| Summary, etc. | RésuméL’article met d’abord en évidence combien la présence « traditionnelle » de la censure dans l’histoire culturelle portugaise va renforcer l’impact de l’État nouveau imposé par Salazar pendant plus de quarante ans (1926-1974), avec pour arme sophistiquée une censure omnisciente qui, associée à la propagande, va modeler comportements et mentalités. À la lumière de mémoires d’artistes, d’archives de metteurs en scène, d’articles de presse, l’auteure aborde la vie théâtrale portugaise et ses conditionnements imposés par un système de surveillance très structuré où la prévention prévaut sur la répression. Tout en évoquant les difficultés dues à la législation théâtrale, elle cite des exemples d’artistes qui doivent imaginer d’incroyables subterfuges pour que le texte devienne, sur scène, parole articulée. Elle parvient à déceler les particularités de la censure salazariste, ainsi que ses principaux effets. |

| Summary, etc. | The « tradition » of censorship in Portuguese cultural history reinforced the impact of the New State imposed by Salazar for nearly fifty years (1926-1974) with its omnipresent censorship used as a sophisticated weapon. Propaganda associated with censorship determined people’s behavior and mentality. The author refers to artists’ memoirs, directors’ archives and press articles to describe the conditions of Portuguese theatre life in that context of a highly structured surveillance system where prevention preceded repression. In view of this legislation on theatre artists indeed were compelled to imagine numerous tricks so that their texts could eventually be understood by the audience. |

| Summary, etc. | ZusammenfassungDie Tradition der Zensur in der Portugiesischen kulturellen Geschichte verstärkt die Wirkung des während beinahe fünfzig Jahre (1926-1974) von Salazar auferlegten Neuen Staates mit seiner als eine subtile Waffe benutzten omnipräsenten Zensur. Die Propaganda, die mit dieser Zensur verbunden ist, wird die Verhalten und Mentalitäten verändern. Die Autorin bezieht sich auf Künstlermemoiren, Filmemacher-Archivdokumenten und Presseartikel, um die Bedingungen des portuguiesischen Theaterlebens zu beschreiben, das einem sehr strukturierten Überwachungssystem unterworfen wird, in welchem die Verhütung der Repression vorangeht. Wegen der Rechtsgebung auf dem Gebiet des Theaters werden sich die Künstler zwar zahlreicher Tricks bedienen müssen, damit ihr Text von dem Publikum schliesslich verstanden werden konnte. |
