| Summary, etc. | RésuméDe la sagesse des mots, il faut s’instruire. Mais il faut aussi savoir se déprendre. À interroger L’Odyssée, une première opposition se profile entre les îles de fiction, celles que l’on ne connaît que par les récits de marins, et les îles réelles, celles que l’on habite ou que l’on connaît par une fréquentation régulière. Mais la description des premières ne livre pas moins d’informations que l’étude des secondes. Le périple des îles occidentales, toutes fictives en apparence, a en effet son histoire. Il codifie et fixe par écrit des instructions orales destinées aux marins et guerriers de l’époque protocoloniale ( ixe- viie siècle av. J.-C.), sur la navigation et sur les singularités des peuples établis dans ces autres mondes. Ce faisant, il ébauche une anthropologie du monde occidental, tel que les Grecs contemporains d’Homère s’efforçaient de le penser. L’article se fonde sur l’interprétation précise des passages du texte d’Homère relatifs à la navigation, à la lumière des expéditions nautiques que l’auteur a dirigées en Méditerranée, au fil des années, avec le concours de spécialistes des disciplines scientifiques concernées, ethnographes, météorologues, historiens, linguistes, hellénistes. |

| Summary, etc. | We must learn from the wiseness of words, but we must be able to distance ourselves from them. When studying Odyssey we note a first opposition between fictional islands, known only from sailors’ accounts, and real islands, inhabited or visited regularly. But the description of the former is as informative as the study of the latter. The epic in the western islands, all seemingly fictitious, has its own history indeed. It codifies and fixes in writing oral instructions intended for sailors and warriors of the protocolonial times (9th-7th century bc) and relative to navigation and to the singularities of peoples established in those other worlds. It thus gives a beginning of anthropology of the western world, such as Homer’s Greek contemporaries imagined it. The author gives a precise interpretation of extracts from Odyssey relative to navigation in the light of the several nautical expeditions he conducted in the Mediterranean with the assistance of specialists in ethnography, meteorology, history, linguistics, hellenism. |

Bei der Studie der Odyssee beobachtet man eine erste Opposition zwischen fiktionalen Inseln, die aus Seefahrererzählungen gekannt sind, und wirkliche Inseln, die regelmässig besucht werden. Aber die Beschreibung der ersteren ist ebenso informativ wie die der letzteren. Das Seefahrtepos nach den westlichen Inseln, die alle anscheinend fiktiv sind, hat seine eigene Geschichte. Es fixiert in Normen mündliche Instruktionen über die Seefahrt und die Eigentümlichkeiten der Völker jener anderen Welten, die für die Seefahrer und Krieger der protokolonialen Zeit (9.-7. Jahrhundert) bestimmt waren. Dadurch stellt es den Anfang einer Anthropologie der westlichen Welt dar, wie sich Homers griechische Zeitgenossen sie vorstellten. Der Autor interpretiert Auszüge aus der Odyssee über die Seefahrt aufgrund der mehreren nautischen Expeditionen, die er in das Mittelmeer mit Hilfe von Spezialisten in Ethnographie, Meteorologie, Geschichte, Linguistik, Hellenismus geführt hat. |
