| Summary, etc. | Résumé Cet article examine l’organisation de l’élevage bovin Norwegian Red Cattle ( nrc). Son monopole national a fait de la nrc une entité unique dans le monde occidental. Nous décrivons ce monopole de façon empirique, comme exemple de rationalisme social-démocrate et en tant qu’« acteur-réseau », ainsi que Bruno Latour l’a fait à propos de la pasteurisation de la France, lorsqu’il évoque la notion de filet, rendu solide par la standardisation des pratiques et des techniques « enrôlées ». Si la nrc a pu standardiser l’élevage en Norvège, c’est aussi parce qu’elle a volontairement choisi de ne pas standardiser tout l’élevage, laissant ainsi de la place à du non-standardisé. |

| Summary, etc. | This paper examines the cattle breeding organisation Norwegian Red Cattle ( nrc). nrc is unique in the Western world because this organisation has a national monopoly on cattle breeding. The paper describes this monopoly both empirically, as an example of social democratic rationalism, and as an “actor-network”, akin to how Latour described the pasteurization of France [Latour, 1988]. Latour showed us a net that grew strong by being able to standardise all the practices and technologies that it thus “enrolled”. The paper shows that nrc was able to enrol all breeding into one regime because the organisation deliberately did not standardise all breeding. nrc left room for the non-standardised. |

| Summary, etc. | Zusammenfassung Der Artikel untersucht die Organisation der Zucht von Norwegian Red Cattle ( nrc) Rindern. Das staatliche Monopol auf die Zucht von nrc Rindern hat diese Rasse in Westeuropa einzigartig gemacht. Der Autor nähert sich der Thematik empirisch, indem er, wie Bruno Latour es für die Pasteurisierung Frankreichs [Latour, 1988] getan hat, die Rinderzucht als ein Beispiel des sozialdemokratischen Rationalismus betrachtet. Latour hat besonders den Aspekt der Vernetzung betont, die sich vor allem durch die Standardisierung bestimmter Praktiken und Techniken durchgesetzt hat. Dass die Zucht von nrc Rindern standardisiert werden konnte, hängt aber gerade auch damit zusammen, dass die Standardisierung bewusst nicht auf das gesamte Zuchtverhalten in Norwegen angewandt, sondern der nichtstandardisierten Zucht ebenso Raum gelassen wurde. |
