| Summary, etc. | Résumé Alors que les magistrats qui les ont placés en détention espèrent que leur séjour carcéral marquera un coup d’arrêt à leur délinquance et permettra une amorce de réflexion personnelle, les détenus mineurs dédramatisent leur présence en prison et désingularisent leur expérience individuelle, pour les intégrer dans une culture et un mode de vie ordinaire de la « jeunesse » en général. Ils occupent alors leurs journées à transformer leur lieu de détention en une annexe de la cité, et à banaliser leurs infractions qui ne seraient finalement rien d’autre que des faits de jeunesse ou menant à une insertion certaine. Ces représentations adoucissent le séjour en prison, mais interrogent sur le sens qu’aura pour chacun cette expérience. |

| Summary, etc. | While the magistrates who have assigned them to detention are hoping that their spell in prison will mean a sharp check to their delinquency and allow the development of their individual conscience, prisoners under 18 de-dramatize their presence in jail and deny any meaning to their singular experience, in order to integrate the normal life style and culture of the youth. As a consequence, they will spend their daytime transforming the jail premises into an annex of their home place, and making their offences nothing more than a part of everyday life, or undoubtedly leading to their social insertion. Such representations soothe the spell in prison, but question the meaning that experience will convey to each of them. |
