| Summary, etc. | RésuméUne partie des processus concernant l’Europe de l’Est concerne la restructuration de la perception des inégalités sociales par l’idéologie néolibérale dominante. La façon dont les pays et les groupes sociaux se sont saisis de la libération du marché et de la démocratie sert de mesure à leur insertion dans la catégorie de l’Occident. Autrefois, c’était une carte géographique qui traçait la frontière entre l’« Orient » et l’Occident (le rideau de fer). Aujourd’hui, cette carte mentale a pris les formes d’un espace social et les anciens « Autres » se retrouvent sous la figure de frères socialement stigmatisés. La stratégie qui consiste à jeter le blâme sur les victimes présente plusieurs défauts, notamment son déterminisme anti-sociologique et anti-culturel. La résistance des dominés, tenus pour responsables des échecs du projet néolibéral, renforce leur altérité. En participant aux discours dominants, les intellectuels présupposent qu’ils les aident à se transformer en « citoyens civilisés ». |

| Summary, etc. | A part of the processes in Eastern Europe involve a restructuring of the perception of social inequalities by the hegemonic neoliberal ideology. The degree to which various countries and social groups have embraced the free market and democracy has become a yardstick for classifying them as fitting more or less the category of the West. In the past a mental border between the West and the East was drawn on geographic map (Iron Curtain), while today a mental map has morphed into social space and the former spatial Others has been resurrected today as the socially stigmatized brothers. A strategy of blaming the victims has several shortcomings, but above all it is anti-sociological and it is also culture-deterministic. Resistance of subalterns hold responsible for failures of the neoliberal project, strengthens their assumed alterity. Intellectuals participate in dominant discourses and assume that they help in transforming people into “civilized citizens”. |

| Summary, etc. | ZusammenfassungVor dem Hintergrund der vorherrschenden neo-liberalen politischen Ideologie strukturiert sich im heutigen Osteuropa die Wahrnehmung sozialer Ungleichheit neu. Die Eingliederung der Staaten und ihrer sozialen Akteure in „den Westen“ lässt sich besonders deutlich an der Anpassung an wirtschaftliche Liberalisierung und politische Demokratisierung erkennen. Früher wurden die Staaten Osteuropas – dank des Eisernen Vorhangs – in erster Linie geographisch definiert ; als Länder an der Schwelle zwischen „Orient“ und „Okzident“. Die einst geographische Trennung ist einem neuen geistigen Raum sozialer Ungleichheit gewichen, in dem die ehemaligen „Anderen“ sich als sozial benachteiligte Brüder wahrnehmen. Die Opferrolle einzunehmen ist allerdings – besonders durch den mit ihr einhergehenden anti-soziologischen und anti-kulturellen Determinismus – mit einigen Nachteilen verbunden. Die politische Klasse, die für das Scheitern des neo-liberalen Projekts verantwortlich gemacht wird, wehrt sich gegen diese Wahrnehmung. Gleichzeitig versuchen die Intellektuellen durch ihre Teilnahme am politischen Diskurs die anderen zu „zivilisierteren Bürger“ zu machen. |
