| Summary, etc. | RésuméL’article présente les « maladies populaires » rencontrées en Cachoubie, dans le Nord de la Pologne, et étudie le phénomène dans le contexte de la médecine « complémentaire » contemporaine. L’auteure montre comment les réseaux de significations de ces maladies conduisent à interpréter les symptômes et les causes autrement que la biomédecine et amènent à recourir aux thérapies traditionnelles. En raison du particularisme de la population étudiée, les « champs de compétence » des praticiens traditionnels locaux ne s’étendent qu’à ce type de maladies. |

| Summary, etc. | This article presents, from the perspective of medical anthropology, the problem of folk illnesses in Kaszuby region in northern Poland. It deals with this phenomenon within the context of present-day complementary medicine. The author argues that the web of representations of these illnesses “meaning networks”, which recognise symptoms and etiologies differently than biomedicine, strongly influence therapeutic choices. Such illnesses are still thought as curable only by local traditional specialists as they are within their “areas of competence”. This may be explained by some characteristics of the society under study. |

| Summary, etc. | ZusammenfassungDer Artikel widmet sich den in der nordpolnischen Region Kaszuby auftretenden „Volkskrankheiten“ und untersucht das Phänomen vor dem Hintergrund alternativer Heilmethoden. Die Autorin zeigt wie die unterschiedlichen Bedeutungen dieser Volkskrankheiten zu anderen Diagnosen führen als dies in der klassischen Medizin der Fall ist und wie zu ihrer Behandlung vermehrt auf traditionelle Heilmethoden zurückgegriffen wird. Aufgrund der Besonderheit der untersuchten Bevölkerungsgruppe, erstreckt sich die fachliche Kompetenz der traditionellen Mediziner allerdings lediglich auf die zitierten Volkskrankheiten. |
