L’auteur montre que l’utilisation de l’espace public dans le centre de Belfast a changé et semble témoigner d’une évolution des identités. Il conclut par une double interrogation. Une nouvelle identité civique, englobant les clivages politiques et ethniques, se développe-t-elle et, si oui, surmontera-t-elle la ségrégation résidentielle qui progresse dans Belfast et sa zone urbaine ? |

| Summary, etc. | This paper explores one of the defining aspects of politics and identity in Northern Ireland : the control and utilisation of public space, particularly urban public space. I will examine evidence of some changes in the way public space is being used in central Belfast that potentially reflects changing identities in the city. The paper concludes by speculating on whether a new civic identity that spans the political and ethnic divisions has started to develop in Belfast and that this might evolve even with increased residential division throughout the Belfast urban area. |

| Summary, etc. | ZusammenfassungDieser Artikel widmet sich dem Thema der Nutzung des öffentlichen Raumes, der vor allem im städtischen Milieu Nordirlands ein wichtiges Merkmal der politischen aber auch der nationalen Identität ist. Der Autor zeigt, wie die Nutzung des öffentlichen Raumes sich im Zentrum von Belfast verändert hat und so einen Wandel der Identitäten bewirkt hat. Dabei stellt sich der Autor eine doppelte Frage : Entwickelt sich durch die neue Art der Nutzung des öffentlichen Raumes, der die politischen und ethnischen Unterschiede mit einbezieht, eine neue Identität ? Und wenn ja, kann sie die räumliche Segregation in Belfast selbst sowie im Umland überwinden ? |
