À la tête de l’appellation à laquelle elles ont donné leur nom, leur prééminence ne peut être disputée. Pour d’autres, qui ne jouissent pas d’une telle position, le statut de capitale relève bien davantage d’une affirmation, plus ou moins appuyée et argumentée, face à d’éventuelles concurrentes. Tokaj en Hongrie, Saint‑Émilion et Épernay en France illustreront notre propos. |

| Summary, etc. | For certain towns in viticultural areas, the importance of recognition as the “capital” speaks for itself. Occupying the dominant position with regard to the “appellation”, to which they have given their name, their pre‑eminence cannot be disputed. For other wine‑growing centres, however, which do not hold such a prominent position, the acquisition of this “capital” status signifies an even stronger affirmation of their importance, since this title has been acquired through much debate and discussion. In relation to a potential competition, this new status will serve them well. The cases of Tokaj in Hungary, Saint‑Émilion and Épernay in France will serve to illustrate our main thesis. |

Ihr Vorrang kann auf Grund ihrer dominanten Stellung in Bezug auf den Herkunftsort, dem sie ihren Namen gegeben haben, nicht in Frage gestellt werden. Für andere, die sich nicht einer solchen Position erfreuen, stellt der Status einer Weinhauptstadt mehr eine Bestätigung dar, die gegenüber möglichen Konkurrenten mehr oder weniger gestützt und argumentiert ist. Tokaj in Ungarn, sowie Saint‑Émilion und Épernay in Frankreich stellen Beispiele für unsere Ausführungen dar. |
