| Summary, etc. | À partir d’une ethnographie réalisée dans un bidonville de Beyrouth, cet article s’intéresse à la colombophilie ( kashsh ḥamām en arabe). Suivant la proposition de Clifford Geertz, il envisage ce jeu comme une « sémantique sociale », une façon de se raconter et de décrire la société dans laquelle on évolue. Pour autant, le kashsh ḥamām ne peut être réduit à un simple reflet de la réalité sociale. Il constitue aussi un espace-temps où des hommes s’autorisent à rêver d’un monde autre que celui dans lequel ils se trouvent « encagés ». |

| Summary, etc. | Based on an ethnography carried out in a Beirut slum, this article focuses on pigeon racing ( kashsh ḥamām in Arabic). Following Clifford Geertz’s proposal, it considers this practice as a “social semantics,” a way of talking about oneself and describing the society in which one lives. However, the kashsh ḥamām cannot be reduced to a simple mirror of social reality. It also constitutes a space-time where men allow themselves to dream of a world other than the one in which they are “encaged”. |

| Summary, etc. | Basierend auf einer Ethnographie, die in einem Slum in Beirut durchgeführt wurde, konzentriert sich dieser Artikel auf den Sport des Taubenrennens (kashsh ḥamām auf Arabisch). In Anlehnung an Clifford Geertz sieht er in diesem Sport eine „soziale Semantik“, eine Art und Weise, um von sich selbst zu erzählen und die Gesellschaft zu beschreiben, in der man sich bewegt. Allerdings kann der kashsh ḥamām nicht auf eine Spiegelung der sozialen Realität reduziert werden. Er stellt auch einen Zeit-Raum dar, in dem die Menschen sich erlauben, von einer anderen Welt zu träumen als der, in der sie „eingesperrt“ sind. |
