| Summary, etc. | Quels furent les projets d’unité de Jean Monnet ? Les recherches sur Monnet ont d’abord investi le champ du plan Schuman, oubliant que Monnet avait formulé des projets d’unité européenne atlantique et mondiale dès la période de la Société des Nations. Dès 1919, il voulait organiser le monde pour la paix grâce à la SDN. En 1943, le thème de l’unité européenne est lié à la politique étrangère du général de Gaulle qui, à la différence de Monnet, adopte une politique de force contre l’Allemagne. Il faut attendre le 9 mai 1950 pour voir cette politique cesser officiellement. L’obsession européenne n’est plus centrale dans les projets encore vagues d’Union des hommes ou d’Union universelle. Jean Monnet a toujours recherché la paix, mais a réussi l’Union européenne. |

| Summary, etc. | What were Jean Monnet’s plans for unity? Academic research on Monnet initially focused on the Schuman Plan, forgetting that Monnet had formulated projects for European, Atlantic and global unity as early as the period of the League of Nations. From 1919, he wanted to organise the world for peace through the League of Nations. In 1943, the theme of European unity was linked to the foreign policy of the General de Gaulle who, unlike Monnet, adopted a policy of force against Germany. It was not until 9 May 1950 that this policy officially ceased. The European obsession was no longer central to the still vague projects of the Union of Men or the Universal Union. Jean Monnet always sought peace, but he succeeded in creating the European Union. |
