| Summary, etc. | RésuméLe paysage hydropolitique sud-africain est très profondément marqué par la présence de grands systèmes de transferts d’eau inter-bassins, qui effacent les lignes de partage des eaux et transforment certains cours d’eau en simples aqueducs. Dans ce contexte, la limite entre processus artificiels et naturels devient de plus en plus difficile à cerner. L’eau ne s’écoule plus vers la mer, mais est désormais aspirée par l’argent et le pouvoir.Le but de cet article est de présenter les liens complexes entre ces grands réseaux et les territoires qu’ils traversent, pour en cerner les implications dans les politiques de l’eau de l’Afrique du Sud post-apartheid. |

| Summary, etc. | The South African waterscape has been highly modified by a complex network of 19 inter-basin transfers. These huge infrastructural systems built since the 1960s have transformed South African rivers into « hybrids », where natural and artificial processes are now undistinguishable. Indeed, the natural boundaries of river basins became progressively blurred and some rivers have been transformed into mere aqueducts. Water does not flow towards the sea anymore, but goes to money and power.The aim of this paper is to explore how the construction of this hybrid network has shaped new hydropolitical geographies and its implications on water management policies in the post apartheid South Africa. |
