| Summary, etc. | Alors que les services socio-judiciaires ont fait l’objet en France comme en Belgique d’une vaste réforme en 1999, cet article interroge le sens et les effets des logiciels informatiques dont l’usage s’est généralisé dans le prolongement de ces reconfigurations. En revenant sur leur contexte de déploiement dans ces organisations, sur les propriétés dont ils sont porteurs et sur les représentations qu’ils suscitent, on montrera que ces édifices informatiques se présentent comme des « architectures paradoxales » : alors que le processus d’institutionnalisation et d’informatisation de ces services demeure incertain, et que les caractéristiques intrinsèques des logiciels s’avèrent équivoques, leur principal effet tient aux potentialités qu’ils laissent imaginer et aux illusions qu’ils entretiennent, autour desquelles se recomposent les identités professionnelles. |

| Summary, etc. | Information technology and socio-legal services in France and Belgium : paradoxical architecture ?In 1999, socio-legal services were affected by a broad organizational reform in both France and Belgium. This article explores the meaning and impact of software that became widely used in the wake of these organizational changes. Describing the context of its deployment and its specifications, as well as the visions it generates, we show that this software constitutes a “paradoxical architecture.” While the process of institutionalization and computerization of these administrative units is uncertain and the intrinsic properties of the software remains equivocal, the most important impact of the new software may actually lie in the prospects and potentialities it opens up, and even the illusions it allows, around which professional identities are restructured. |
