Summary, etc. In this essay, the author observes some of the figures and scenes as they appear and are transformed in the paintings and text of The Red Book, beginning with the image of Izdubar. His analysis leads him to place them alongside certain works of contemporary art, including the canvases of Anselm Kiefer. Next, he studies the progression of Jung’s work from the Red Book to his Answer to Job, probing the relationship between analytic psychology and religion, and more precisely, between the work of symbolization and belief.
