| Summary, etc. | Résumé Le stalinisme a une vision pour ainsi dire « constructiviste » de l’être humain qui suppose un « travail sur soi ». Cet article analyse les pratiques spécifiques à disposition (notamment l’autorapport, l’autocritique et l’autobiographie) à partir des écoles internationales de cadres dans les années 1930. Censées produire le « cadre bolchevique », ces institutions constituent un lieu privilégié pour analyser le fonctionnement et les finalités de ces techniques de soi et techniques d’institution faisant appel autant à la subjectivité et à l’intériorisation de normes et de valeurs qu’à la violence symbolique, la disciplination et finalement la répression. |

| Summary, etc. | Stalinism had a “constructivist” vision, as it were, of human beings, which implied an effort at self-improvement. This article analyses the specific practices devised to achieve this end (particularly self-reports, self-criticism and autobiography) beginning with the international schools for cadres in the 1930s. These institutions, which were supposed to produce “Bolshevik cadres”, offered an ideal opportunity to analyse the workings and finality of such self-improvement and institutional techniques which resorted as much to subjectivity and the interiorising of standards and values as to symbolic violence, discipline and ultimately repression. |
