| Summary, etc. | RésuméDans la perspective d’une sociohistoire de la citoyenneté, l’étude du traitement réservé aux migrants algériens en métropole durant la période coloniale apparaît comme un cas exemplaire des disparités pouvant exister entre différentes catégories de citoyens. Après 1945, plus rien ne distingue en principe les « Français musulmans » des autres citoyens français mais cette égalité juridique se heurte en pratique à certains obstacles : l’accès aux emplois publics, l’assujettissement aux pratiques d’identification et les conditions pour bénéficier de prestations garanties par l’État social constituent trois dimensions de cette citoyenneté « paradoxale » qui révèle d’importantes distorsions entre catégories juridiques et pratiques administratives. |

| Summary, etc. | From the standpoint of a socio-history of citizenship, the study of the treatment of Algerian immigrants in metropolitan France during the colonial period seems to be an exemplary case of disparities that can exist between various categories of citizens. After 1945, in theory, there was nothing to distinguish “French Muslims” from other French citizens. In practice, however, there were certain obstacles to this legal equality : access to public jobs, subjection to identification procedures, and the conditions for benefiting from services guaranteed by the Welfare State. They make up three dimensions of a “paradoxical” citizenship that reveals major distortions between legal categories and administrative practices. |
