| Summary, etc. | Résumé De 1996 à nos jours, Al Jazeera a connu plusieurs vies. Celle de la naissance sur le plan médiatique international d’abord, au lendemain des attentats du 11 septembre 2001. Celle de la confirmation ensuite, avec par exemple sa couverture remarquée du conflit irakien, ou encore celle du conflit israélo-libanais de 2006. Mais entre 2007 et 2010, l’actualité dans le monde arabe se stabilise. Limitée à être « la chaîne du Proche et du Moyen-Orient » pour beaucoup de médias et de téléspectateurs, Al Jazeera atteint une période de stagnation, qui durera jusqu’à la fin de l’année 2010. C’est le « Printemps arabe » qui viendra sortir Al Jazeera de sa léthargie. Au point qu’elle se jettera dans la couverture de cet événement, littéralement corps et âme. Au risque de se voir, une fois de plus, accusée de parti pris, et de voir s’éloigner une partie de sa base, peinée de voir certaines revendications populaires passées sous silence, en particulier dans le Golfe. Ce qui a été un peu rapidement décrit comme le « moment américain » d’Al Jazeera, censé être la consécration de plus d’une quinzaine d’années de travail acharné, pourrait s’avérer être le début de la fin pour la chaîne dans le monde arabe. Mais le groupe a déjà d’autres pistes, aux quatre coins de la planète, pour tenter de sortir de cette impasse. |

| Summary, etc. | From 1996 to today, Al Jazeera had several lives. Its first one, its “ birth” on the international media plan, began after the attacks of September 11, 2001. Its second life, “ the confirmation”, took place from 2003, with the Iraq war, to 2006, with the coverage of the israelo-lebanese conflict. But between 2007 and 2010, current events in the Arab world stabilized. Limited to “ the channel of the Arab world”, Al Jazeera reached a period of stagnation which lasted at the end of 2010. Indeed, it’s the “ Arab Spring” which would get Al Jazeera out of its lethargy. The channel would, literally, cover this event body and soul. At the risk of being, once again, accused of bias. This was a bit quickly described as the “ American moment” of Al Jazeera, supposed to be the consecration of more than fifteen years of hard work. But this moment could also be the beginning of the end for the channel in the Arab world, criticized from all sides. But in the Balkans, in Africa and also in Turkey, the channel has other tracks to try to break the deadlock in which it could be in the Arab world. |
