| Summary, etc. | L’inversion récente des perspectives de développement économique en Afrique, après la période d’optimisme du début du siècle, s’explique en particulier par le bilan pour le moins très mitigé en termes d’industrialisation. Contrastant avec l’image de « scandale géologique » souvent colportée, la faiblesse de la disponibilité en énergie sur le continent est une des causes essentielles d’une telle désillusion. Si l’électrification de l’Afrique apparaît alors comme la condition indispensable à toute croissance véritablement intensive, seule susceptible d’enclencher un processus d’enrichissement significatif et durable des populations, pour le moment le parcours demeure, en dépit d’indéniables atouts, incertain et semé d’obstacles. |

| Summary, etc. | The recent reversal of economic development prospects for Africa, after a period of optimism at the beginning of the century, can be interpreted, to a certain extent, by the continent’s somewhat mixed results in terms of industrialization. Contrasting with the frequently used image of ‘geological scandal’, the limited availability of energy on the African continent can mostly explain this disenchantment. If the electrification of Africa thus appears as a prerequisite for any really intensive growth, - itself the only decisive mean of increasing affluence (in a significant and sustainable way) - for the population, the road remains uncertain and strewn with obstacles, despite some indisputable assets. |
