| Summary, etc. | This article is an introduction to the double special issue of the journal Géographie Économie Société entitled “How can we understand the sustainable transitions of territories?”. This spécial issue brings together French-language contributions on the territorial dimensions of transformations towards sustainability. Following a summary presentation of the twelve theoretical and empirical contributions, this introduction sets out the state of the art in terms of the salient points of the articles as a whole. On the one hand, it highlights a new way of approaching territories through the prism of sustainable transitions : interest in living organisms and metabolisms calls for a distancing from the “territorial development” paradigm. On the other hand, this introduction underlines the contributions of the territorial approach to the field of study of sustainable transitions, particularly with regard to the multi-level perspective : it highlights the multidimensionality, complexity and situated nature of transformation processes, and the interest of considering them for the comprehensive analysis of possible regime changes on a larger scale. |

| Summary, etc. | Cet article constitue une introduction au double numéro spécial de la revue Géographie Économie Société « Comment appréhender les transitions soutenables des territoires ? ». Celui-ci réunit des contributions francophones sur les dimensions territoriales des transformations profondes vers la soutenabilité. Après une présentation synthétique des douze contributions tant théoriques qu’empiriques, cette introduction établit un état de l’art autour des points saillants de l’ensemble des articles. D’une part, elle met en lumière un nouveau regard et de nouvelles approches du territoire au prisme des transitions soutenables : l’intérêt pour le vivant et les métabolismes appelle et opère une distanciation du paradigme de « développement territorial ». D’autre part, cette introduction souligne les apports de l’approche territoriale au champ d’études des transitions soutenables, notamment à propos de la perspective multi-niveau : elle met en lumière la multidimensionnalité, la complexité et le caractère situé des processus de transformation et l’intérêt de les prendre en compte pour l’analyse compréhensive d’éventuels changements de régime à plus grande échelle. |
