| Summary, etc. | Comment supporter de s’approcher d’une personne souffrante, sachant qu’un rapport d’altérité est justement de se laisser altérer ? En accompagnant un patient à qui il survient une succession de malheurs sans perspective de réconfort, j’ai été à l’écoute de mes ressentis. La détresse et l’impuissance étaient réciproques, et dans un ultime mouvement d’aller-vers, j’ai proposé avec audace d’écrire en vue d’une éventuelle publication le vécu de l’un et de l’autre. C’est alors pour moi l’occasion d’interroger ma posture et ses aléas, et pour lui la possibilité de témoigner et peut-être de retrouver une raison de vivre. |

| Summary, etc. | How does one bear to approach someone who suffers, knowing that a relationship of otherness is precisely that of accepting being changed? By accompanying a patient to whom a succession of misfortunes occurred with no prospect of reassurance, I was in contact with to my own feelings. Distress and helplessness were reciprocal, and in a final movement to go towards my patient, I boldly offered to write up each of our experiences in view of a possible publication. This gave me the opportunity to question my professional position and its hazards, and for my client, the opportunity to witness and perhaps find a reason to live. |
