| Summary, etc. | RésuméDepuis le début du xxe siècle, la Légion étrangère est un sujet de tension entre la France et l’allemagne. Dans l’immédiat après-guerre, les ressortissants allemands constituent le vivier dont la Légion a besoin pour renaître. La République de Weimar s’avère incapable d’endiguer réellement le flux, mais l’efficacité des persécutions nazies et le « relèvement de la nation » suscitent de moins en moins de vocations. Le recrutement germanique baisse considérablement à partir de 1934 pour être presque marginal en 1938. Cela oblige la Légion à s’adapter et à placer « M. Légionnaire » au centre de ses préoccupations. L’aboutissement de cette nouvelle conception est le développement de la « solidarité Légion » qui existe toujours au xxie siècle et fait la force de l’institution. |

| Summary, etc. | In the beginning of the xxth century, the French Foreign Legion was a subject of controversy between France and Germany. Towards the end of 1918, the Foreign Legion witnessed a great number of Germans enlisting which at the time contributed in reviving and reconstituting its army. The “Republic of Weimar” was aware of the situation. The new era of Nazi parties by then growing strong diminished these ideas. German enrollment declined considerably from 1934 and headed towards a stand still by 1938. The Foreign Legion had to reorganize itself on all plans for this new generation especially acknowledging a new status for the Legionnaire. These new concepts as well as the solidarity have kept the force within the Legion bringing it through towards the xxist century. |
