Summary, etc. This article deals with intercultural mediation, focusing on the characteristics of the groups involved. Two types of target populations are identified. Several of the necessary mediation skills are identical for the two groups, whereas in practice, each group also presents specific needs. For first-generation immigrants, the role of mediator involves providing support during the process of adaptation and the reorganization of personal identity. For the bicultural children of immigrants, it involves the ethnicization of their social relations and their need for recognition. In spite of the difficulties and pitfalls, mediation is presented as a potential tool for stimulating change.
