| Summary, etc. | Depuis les années 1990, les préoccupations relatives aux « défis du vieillissement » (Guillemard, 2010) font l’objet d’une attention grandissante de la part des gouvernements successifs. Parallèlement, le mouvement sportif accueille de plus en plus d’adhérents de plus de 60 ans en proposant des activités physiques visant à retarder les effets du vieillissement. C’est le cas de la Fédération française d’éducation physique et de gymnastique volontaire, qui représente aujourd’hui environ 520 000 licencié.e.s dont 198 000 membres de plus de 60 ans, ce qui en fait la fédération la plus importante en France en nombre de « seniors ». Dans une démarche d’analyse de l’action publique, notre problématique consiste à étudier l’évolution des rapports entre cette fédération et le déploiement d’une politique de prévention en vue du « bien vieillir ». Il s’agit ainsi d’observer les formes d’action et de jugement qu’elle met en œuvre face à l’impératif de faire de la prévention par l’activité physique. Les données recueillies soulignent la forte implication de la FFEPGV dans la construction du « problème » (Gusfield, 1981/2009) de la vieillesse et témoignent d’une évolution de ses relations avec le pouvoir politique face à une reconfiguration de l’action publique sous l’angle d’un « new public management » (Bézes, 2012). |

| Summary, etc. | Since the 1990s, concerns related to the “challenges of ageing” (Guillemard, 2010) have received growing attention from successive governments in France. In parallel with this, the sport community has seen increasing growth in membership of those over the age of sixty, as a result of offering activities aimed at reducing the effects of ageing. This is the case of the Fédération française d’éducation physique et de gymnastique volontaire (FFEPGV: the French Federation for Physical Education and Voluntary Gymnastics) which has 520,000 members, 198,000 of whom are over 60; this has made FFEPGV the federation with the largest number of “senior” members in France. In an effort to analyse the effects of public action, we have studied the development of relationships between the FFEPGV and the implementation of a preventative public policy designed to promote “ageing well”. To this end, we examine the forms of action and judgement that have been set up in response to the directive to encourage prevention through physical activity. Collected data highlight the extent to which the FFEPGV has been involved in constructing the “problem” of ageing (Gusfield, 1981/2009) and show how its relations with political powers have evolved in light of the reconfiguration of public policy to reflect a “new public management” approach (Bezes, 2012). |
