Summary, etc. |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | The proportion of dependent older people will continue to rise in France. In recent decades, the housing solutions for older people have become more and more medicalized, particularly in nursing homes, which can sometimes have an impact on their well-being. Reflections are currently underway to develop new and desirable housing models for older people. The objective of this study is to identify the architectural elements likely to influence the well-being of older people living in nursing homes. This study took place from April to August 2021, in seventeen Breton nursing homes, via a quantitative questionnaire-based survey of three groups (residents; family and friends; and professionals). Residents who feel they live in a “place of life” experience significantly higher average well-being than those who feel they live in a “place of care.” Building on the answers provided by the participants, it was possible to identify certain design elements that could meet their aspirations. It seems that a domestic approach to rehabilitation or new-build projects, as well as participative approaches that ensure full user involvement, are appropriate in this case. |
