| Summary, etc. | Cet article s’appuie sur une enquête qualitative menée à partir d’entretiens et d’observations aux lieux de vie des personnes âgées (au domicile, en résidence autonomie et en Ehpad). Son objet est de comprendre la place « intermédiaire » de la résidence autonomie, du point de vue de la personne qui l’habite. Une approche des valeurs (sécurité et liberté) rattachées à la résidence pose la question d’un « parcours résidentiel du vieillissement » fondé sur la dépendance gériatrique de la personne. Parcours dans lequel les seniors ne se reconnaissent pas et auquel ils opposent leur libre arbitre. La théorie de la reconnaissance (Axel Honneth) offre une lecture à la fois du parcours et de cette affirmation d’une autonomie morale. |

| Summary, etc. | This article relies on qualitative research conducted through interviews and observations in places where older adults live: at home, in independent housing, and in Ehpad (nursing homes for dependent older adults). The purpose of the article is to understand the position of independent, “intermediary,” housing from the perspective of residents. An analysis of safety and freedom, values related to such independent housing, reveals a “residential pathway for aging,” based on the level of dependence of older adults. However, our study’s subjects do not recognize themselves in this pathway, setting against it their freedom of choice. We use Axel Honneth’s recognition theory to interpret both the pathway and this assertion of moral autonomy. |
