| Summary, etc. | Mourir à domicile à La Réunion est une pratique courante, inscrite dans la conception traditionnelle de la mort comme étape du cycle de vie, surtout pour les personnes âgées. Considéré comme plus à même de maintenir les repères et habitudes, le domicile permettrait d’ancrer la fin de vie dans une vision de la mort « ordinaire », étape finale de la vie. Cet article s’intéresse aux différentes facettes du maintien à domicile en fin de vie. À partir d’une enquête qualitative auprès de proches ayant accompagné une personne en fin de vie et de professionnels et bénévoles investis dans l’accompagnement de la fin de vie à domicile, nous montrons que la fin de vie à domicile à La Réunion s’inscrit dans des logiques « classiques » : valorisation d’une mort entourée dans un environnement familier et familial en continuité de la vie antérieure sans pour autant que le domicile ne protège des aménagements du logement, de l’arrivée d’aidants professionnels et de bouleversements dans les rythmes des personnes accompagnées et surtout de ceux de leurs proches. |

| Summary, etc. | Dying at home in La Réunion is a common situation, part of the traditional conception of death as a stage in the life cycle, especially for the elderly. Seen as better able to maintain reference points and habits, the home is believed to anchor the end of life in a view of death as an “ordinary” part of life, the final stage. This article focuses on the various aspects of staying home during end of life. Based on a qualitative survey of mostly relatives who have accompanied a person at the end of life and of professionals and volunteers involved in supporting the end of life at home, we show that the end of life at home in Reunion Island is part of “classic” patterns: valuing a death surrounded by a familiar and family environment in continuity with the person’s previous life. But the home does not prevent from some disruptions like home adaptations, the arrival of professional carers in the home and changes in the rhythms of the people supported and, above all, those of their relatives. |
