| Summary, etc. | Le terme effondrement est polysémique. Géologie, architecture, finances, sociétés, espèces animales…, l’effondrement s’applique également et plus insidieusement à la culture et aux valeurs. En santé, l’effondrement évoque la décompensation de l’état d’homéostasie somatique et la perte de l’équilibre psychique. La personne n’est plus capable de mobiliser son énergie vitale ni ses mécanismes de défense pour supporter l’angoisse de mort qui l’envahit. L’analogie entre l’effondrement individuel et sociétal a fait réfléchir les auteurs de cet article, psychothérapeutes, sur la sinistrose, le malaise ambiant et la perte de sens rassemblés de manière plus concrète sous le terme anglais brown-out, état de morosité et de pré-effondrement qui précède le black-out ; ce dernier, synonyme littéral d’extinction. Prenant comme base le texte de D.W. Winnicott « La crainte de l’effondrement » [1], les auteurs insistent sur le fait que l’effondrement, annoncé par les Cassandre et collapsologues de tous bords, n’est pas irrémédiable si nous reprenons confiance en nous, en notre avenir et si nous ravivons nos valeurs humanistes afin de ne pas se laisser entraîner dans un maelstrom mortifère. |

| Summary, etc. | The term break-down (collapse) is polysemous. Geology, architecture, finance, societies, animal species…, it applies as well, yet more insidiously, to culture and human values. As far as health is concerned, the break-down relates to the decompensation of the somatic homeostasis and psychic balance. In particular, a person is no longer able to mobilize her vital energy or defense mechanisms against the death anxiety that invades her. This analogy between individual and societal made the authors of this article, psychotherapists, think about the “sinistrosis”, the loss of meaning gathered into the expression “brown out”, a state of gloom and pre-collapse which precedes the break-down and the black-out, the latter literally synonymous of extinction. Taking as a basis the D.W. Winnicott’s text “The fear of break-down”, the authors insist on the fact that the collapse announced by the Cassandras, collapsologists of all kinds, is not irremediable if we regain confidence in ourselves, in our future and revive our humanistic values in order not to be dragged into a deadly maelstrom. |
