| Summary, etc. | Au Brésil, près de 20% de la population appartient à l’univers évangélique. L’expansion des Églises évangéliques sur l’ensemble du territoire menace désormais le pouvoir de l’Église catholique. Au-delà de son versant mystique, symbolique, la religion matérialise sa présence dans l’espace, avec une stratégie d’expansion, une vision de l’organisation spatiale. L’organisation centralisée de l’Église catholique, avec un quadrillage exhaustif du territoire, doit être confrontée à la souplesse des Églises évangéliques, autonomes, ouvrant des filiales sur l’ensemble du territoire. Une comparaison de ces deux modes de fonctionnement, et surtout des différentes formes d’occupation territoriale adoptées par l’Église catholique et les Églises évangéliques, peut expliquer en grande partie le succès actuel de ces dernières mais aussi l’impressionnante perte de terrain de la première. |

| Summary, etc. | Evangelicals in Brazil: territorial strategies and political participation In Brazil, nearly 20% of the population belongs to the evangelical movement. The expansions of evangelical churches throughout the territory now threaten the power of the Catholic Church. Beyond its mystical and symbolical aspects, religion materializes its presence in space with a strategy for expansion, a vision of the spatial organization. The centralized organization of the Catholic Church, with an exhaustive surveillance of the territory, must be confronted to the flexibility of the Evangelical churches, independent, offering subsidiaries on the entire territory. A comparison of these two movements, and mostly of the various forms of territorial occupation adoptedby the Catholic Church and the Evangelical churches, can explain, in great part, the actual success of the Evangelical churches and also the impressive loss of ground of the Catholic Church. |
