| Summary, etc. | La mobilisation du courant évangélique et sa détermination à utiliser le combat politique pour convertir la société américaine à ses valeurs traditionnelles sont un élément important de la révolution conservatrice qui travaille la société étatsunienne depuis trois décennies. Ce courant est cependant diversifié et traversé de tension, entre des « puristes» et des « pragmatistes» qui cherchent à s’insérer dans la politique locale, entre des « libertariens» et des conservateurs religieux et moraux qui tentent d’imposer leurs valeurs à l’ensemble des citoyens. L’instrumentalisation du courant évangélique par le président Bush à des fins électorales comporte des limites en raison d’un décalage croissant avec l’opinion publique sur les « valeurs familiales». Et bien qu’ils ne faille pas sous-estimer leur pouvoir électoral, la « révolution morale» ne s’est pas produite et des événements récents ont accéléré les questionnements et les fragmentations au sein de la coalition au pouvoir. |

| Summary, etc. | Evangelicals in the political and social life of the United States Evangelicals are strongly mobilized and determined to use politics in order to convert the American society to their traditional values. This is an important element to understand the conservative revolution the American society has been undergoing over the past three decades. This movement is however diverse and submitted to tensions between “purists” and “pragmatists” who seek political office and between “libertarians” and religious and moral conservatives who try to impose their values to all the citizens. President George Bush has been using the evangelical movement for electoral purpose with some limitations due to the increasing gap with the public opinion on the issue of “familial values”. The voting power of the evangelicals should not be underestimated yet the “moral revolution” has so far not happened and recent events have increased the questioning and the fragmentation of the coalition in power. |
