Confondus avec les pauvres au Moyen Age, ils sont pourchassés au XVIe siècle, enfermés à partir du XVIIe, ce qui est à la fois protection et retranchement. Que l’on ne s’y trompe pas : après les hôpitaux généraux, après les hospices, les structures désormais réservées aux vieillards dépendants sont les lieux contemporains d’exclusion. Attention : incapable d’accompagner la grande vieillesse, le XXIe siècle justifie déjà l’euthanasie. Après l’exclusion de la vie, voici l’exclusion par la mort... |

| Summary, etc. | EXCLUSION AND OLD AGE To the rhythm of the great demographic cycles, during which the existence of old people has asserted itself, the aged have always been threatened with exclusion. Mixed up with the poor in the Middle Ages, hounded out in the XVIth century, locked up as from the XVIIth – which means both protection and removal. Let us make no mistake about it; following in the wake of the “Hôpitaux généraux” and the poorhouses, today’s facilities for dependent old people are modern day places of exclusion. Much attention should be paid to this: the XXIst century, unable to foster the very old, already justifies euthanasia. After exclusion from life, comes exclusion through death. |
