| Summary, etc. | Le 12 janvier 2005 a vu naître une nouvelle association dans le domaine du vieillissement en France: «Vieillir, c’est vivre!». Dans ses statuts et son action à travers les «cafés des âges», cette association ambitionne la création d’un mouvement citoyen sur le thème de la place de l’âge dans la société. L’association porte-t-elle un projet politique, un projet sociétal, un projet citoyen? Le succès quantitatif de son action révèle-t-il un mouvement plus large tentant d’agir sur la place assignée aux «vieux»? Il s’agit de comprendre le sens d’un mouvement. Différentes acceptions de la notion de mouvement social sont mobilisées pour interroger la définition d’un «mouvement citoyen» qui serait une forme particulière de mouvement sociétal (Touraine 1997) sans désignation d’un adversaire, recourant à une intervention sous la forme de débats, de formations, d’échanges entre acteurs. |

| Summary, etc. | TO GROW OLD IS TO LIVE! DOES THIS INDICATE AMOVEMENT OF CHANGE? On the 12th of January 2005 a new association in the field of ageing was born in France: “Vieillir, c’est vivre!”, to grow old is to live! Within its statutes and its action through the “cafés des ages” multi age-group cafés, the association seeks to create a citizen movement based on the place occupied by age in society. Is this a political, societal or citizen project? Does its action’s quantitative success reveal a wider movement tending towards action on the place assigned to the “old”? It is important to understand the meaning of a movement. Different acceptations of the notion of societal movement have been rallied to question the definition of a “citizen movement” which would be a particular form of societal movement (Touraine 1997) with no designated opponent, resorting to intervention in the shape of debates, training and exchange between actors. |
