| Summary, etc. | Issu d’une recherche sur l’offre de service de télé-assistance pour les personnes âgées dépendantes, cet article présente le décalage entre la logique de l’offre qui prédomine et les conditions de son appropriation par les personnes âgées. D’un côté, les professionnels et profanes qui entourent la personne âgée s’entendent pour proposer la télé-assistance en prévention d’une chute. De l’autre côté, les personnes âgées qui se sont appropriées le médaillon, évoquent «la chute dont on ne peut se relever seul», comme un événement traumatisant qui introduit une transition biographique et amène à reconstruire son identité. L’appropriation de la télé-assistance se trouve alors associée à cette période de reconstruction identitaire intégrant cette vulnérabilité. |

| Summary, etc. | WALKING STICK AND MONITOR: HOW IS TELE-MONITORING USED FOR OLDER PEOPLE? The article is based on research carried out on tele-monitoring facilities for older dependent people. It shows the gap between the existing logical offer and the conditions of its appropriation by older people. On the one hand, professionals and lay people surrounding older people agree on tele-monitoring in order to prevent falls. On the other hand, older people who have acquired the monitor, describe “the fall from which they cannot get up alone” as a traumatic experience which introduces biographical transition and leads to identity reconstruction. The acquisition of tele-monitoring is thus associated with a period of identity reconstruction incorporating new vulnerability. |
