| Summary, etc. | À partir d’une série de travaux empiriques réalisés en Seine-Maritime en 2000 et 2007 et à Belfort en 2003, cet article propose une analyse de l’engagement associatif des retraités. Ces travaux mettent en évidence la diversité des configurations (sexe, âge, type d’engagement) et le poids considérable des ressources matérielles et immatérielles (capital social, niveau d’étude, etc.) dans l’accès aux responsabilités associatives. Cette analyse s’inscrit dans une réflexion plus globale sur les processus d’empowerment et de l’engagement social des retraités entendus comme une recherche de pouvoir sur eux-mêmes et leur environnement. |

| Summary, etc. | RETIREMENT, SOCIAL COMMITMENT AND ACTIVE CITIZENSHIP Based on empirical surveys conducted by the authors in Normandy in 2000 and 2007 and in Belfort in 2003, the article seeks to contribute to a better understanding of empowerment processes through the social commitment of retired persons in voluntary work. The article focuses on the involvement of retired persons within associations. It highlights the diversity of situations (gender, age, social status, type of involvement) and the considerable importance of retirees' resources (social capital, level of education, etc.) according to the profile of those who involved in the associations. |
