| Summary, etc. | Wolfgang Thierse, originaire de l’ex-RDA, est l’un des principaux acteurs politiques des décennies 1990 et 2000. Entré au SPD en janvier 1990, il en devient vice-président quelques mois plus tard et conservera ce poste pendant 15 ans. Élu au Bundestag dès 1990, plusieurs fois réélu, il prend une part active aux débats sur la réunification et aux grandes décisions législatives visant à arrimer les Länder de l’ex-RDA à l’Allemagne de l’Ouest. Il atteint l’apogée de sa carrière politique lorsqu’il devient président du Bundestag en 1998. Il le restera jusqu’à la chute du gouvernement de Gerhard Schröder en 2005. Wolfgang Thierse est l’un des principaux témoins de la chute du Mur, de l’avant et de l’après-1989 ainsi que des trois décennies qui ont suivi ; Allemand de l’Est ayant réalisé toute sa carrière politique après la chute du Mur et au sein d’un parti essentiellement ouest-allemand (le SPD), le regard qu’il porte sur les transformations profondes de l’Allemagne et de Berlin est plus complexe, moins binaire et peut-être plus lucide que celui de la plupart de ses contemporains, qu’ils soient originaires de l’Est ou de l’Ouest. |

| Summary, etc. | Wolfgang Thierse, who comes from ex-RDA, is one of the main political stakeholders of the 1990s and 2000s. He joined the SPD in Jnauary 1990 to soon become its vice-president, holding this position for 15 years. Elected at the Bundestag as soon as 1990, reelected multiple times, he took part in the debates over the reunification and in the legislative decisions aiming at tying up the Eastern Landers to West Germany. He reached the top of his political career when he became the Bundestag’s president in 1998. He will remain so until the fall of Gerard Schröder’s government in 2005. Wolfgant Thierse is one of the main witnesses of the Wall’s fall, its beginnings, 1989-aftermath and the three following decades. East-German having done his entire political career after the fall and inside a mostly Western political party (the SPD), his analysis of the transformations of Germany and Berlin is more complex, less binary, and maybe even clearer than most of his contempory fellows, whether they come form Est or West Germany. |
