| Summary, etc. | Marie-Ernestine d’Eggenberg, née Schwarzenberg, fut élevée à Bruxelles avant d’épouser le prince d’Eggenberg. Elle parlait allemand, français et italien, ayant, par ces langues, accès en traduction aux classiques grecs et latins et à la littérature espagnole. Sa bibliothèque comptait au début du XVIIIe siècle 2296 titres d’imprimés. Non seulement, elle mettait sa signature sur les ouvrages qui entraient, mais elle les annotait en marge avec ses remarques. Car la lecture était davantage qu’une simple distraction, elle était aussi un travail de réflexion qui occupait une grande place dans sa vie. |

| Summary, etc. | Maria Ernestina of Eggenberg, born Schwarzenberg, was brought up in Brussels before she married the prince of Eggenberg. She spoke German, French and Italian and thanks to these tongues was able to read translations of Greek and Latin classics as well as Spanish authors. There were 2296 titles of printed books inside her library at the beginning of the XVIIIth century. Not only she signed the new books she bought but she made notes too in their margins. Reading was for her more as a mere entertainment but also an occasion for important meditation throughout her life. |
